Ayurvedic Body Anointing: Abhyanga & Herbal Paste Rituals
“The skin remembers what the soul forgets. Nourish both.”
🛐 What is Abhyanga?
Abhyanga is the Ayurvedic practice of anointing the body with warm, herbal oils — traditionally performed before bathing. It supports lymphatic flow, joint lubrication, skin softness, nervous system grounding, and dosha balance. Often, it is followed by application of **herbal pastes** (lepas or ubtan) for detoxification, toning, and skin healing.
🌿 Ritual Preparation
- Warm your oil of choice slightly (not hot!)
- Prepare a bowl of fresh herbal paste (see recipes below)
- Set aside 20–40 minutes of quiet space and warm water for rinsing
📿 Mantra for Activation
“Let the body remember ease. Let the skin drink light.”
