2. Ritual Construction Method
- Materials: 1″ x 6″ x 4′ cedar board (or pine, untreated), 1″ x 10″ x 12″ board for roof, galvanized nails/screws, wood sealer or paint (optional)
- Cutting the Wood: Front & Back: 10″×5½”, Sides: 12″×5½”, Floor: 4″×5½”, Roof: 10″×12″
- Drill Entrance Hole: 1½” diameter, centered 6″ from bottom of front panel
- Ventilation & Drainage: Vent holes near top sides; notches in floor corners
- Assembly: Secure sides, floor, front (pivoting), and roof (with overhang)
- Finishing: Sand all edges smooth, optional sealing (avoid interior and hole)
3. Placement and Mounting
- Location: Open areas, sparse ground cover
- Height: 4–6 feet above ground
- Orientation: Face east or northeast
- Spacing: 100 yards between boxes
- Protection: Add a baffle to deter predators
4. Maintenance and Monitoring
- Checks: Weekly during nesting season
- Cleaning: After fledging, clear old nests
- Repairs: Keep it secure and intact
