MOLTEN LAVA CAKE

Giant Molten Lava Cake with Ice Cream

History & Lore

The molten lava cake, a relatively modern dessert, is said to have been invented in the early 1990s by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Its creation was born from a mistake—a cake that was underbaked and served while still liquid inside. But this “mistake” became an instant sensation, with its oozy, chocolatey center transforming the simple dessert into a luxurious experience. Paired with two generous scoops of ice cream, this giant version takes indulgence to the next level—perfect for those who crave the ultimate sweet treat.

Recipe: The Giant Molten Lava Cake with Ice Cream

Ingredients (Serves 2-3)

• 6 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa for richness)

• 1/2 cup unsalted butter

• 1/4 cup granulated sugar

• 2 large eggs

• 2 egg yolks

• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

• 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

• Pinch of salt

• 2 scoops vanilla ice cream (or any ice cream of choice)

Instructions

1. Preheat & Prepare: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a giant muffin tin or individual large ramekins with butter or non-stick spray.

2. Melt the Chocolate: In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate and butter together over a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring until smooth.

3. Mix the Batter: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, egg yolks, sugar, vanilla, and salt together until light and fluffy. Fold in the melted chocolate mixture and gently mix in the flour.

4. Fill & Bake: Pour the batter into your prepared ramekins or muffin tin, filling them about 3/4 of the way. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still slightly jiggly.

5. Serve: Allow the cakes to rest for 1 minute, then carefully invert them onto plates. Serve immediately with two scoops of vanilla ice cream on top or beside the cake, allowing the ice cream to melt into the warm chocolate center.

The Promo: An Over-the-Top Indulgence

This is no ordinary molten lava cake. This is giant, overflowing with rich, gooey chocolate at its core. When paired with two generous scoops of vanilla ice cream, you get the perfect balance—warm, cold, creamy, and indulgent. As you break into the cake, the molten chocolate spills out, and with each bite, the ice cream melts into the gooey goodness, creating a symphony of flavor.

It’s decadent. It’s indulgent. And it’s waiting for you.
