The Boss Baby

June 2, 2017

Can I really say that I liked this movie?
Yes. Yes, I did.

Going in, I had no idea what the story was even about. I rarely watch movies anymore. This was a perfect setup since I had very low expectations.

I knew that Alec Baldwin was in it and it had something to do with a baby wearing a suit.

The movie felt like a Pixar movie, and that’s the highest compliment I can give it. It felt very inspired and hit the target for me. I guess many others felt the same way because the movie made over $170M domestically and almost $307M in foreign markets. A sequel is in the works.

I was surprised to find afterwards that the Rotten Tomatoes rating was only 52%.

I have a couple of theories about this.

1. The movie is actually only that good and I just happen to be in the coin flip crowd that liked it.

2. Or, the movie will only resonate deeply with a certain group.
Older males with a younger brother. (Since the main characters are both boys). And also to parents of two boys.

I’m not saying the movie only affects those people but since I’m an older sibling with a younger brother, it resonated with me. The feeling of being an only male child and then another one comes into the family and takes all the attention. Parents will relate to the older kid acting up when a newborn is in town.

The movie also reminds us adults that we were all kids once who used to have fun and play with our imagination. Now we are all sitting in cubicles, wearing ties, and acting like robots.

Anyways, the movie was really good and fun.
The story was believable in their own world, just like hobbits are believable in LOTR.

Later, I found the movie was based on a children’s book also by the same name. Now it made sense why the movie felt inspired rather than constructed in a lab by marketing folks.

Is there anything better than a baby wearing a suit and sounding like Alec Baldwin? More of that please.
