My Success Recipe to achieve a goal: open a can of whoopass

February 21, 2014

Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand.

I think I figured something out.

As usual, I’m sharing whatever I learn asap:
– to help you out
– to cement the idea further in my mind.

After years of farming on barren land, I’ve had two successful crops in a relatively short amount of time.

What I mean to say is I achieved two “impossible” goals back to back within the past few months.

#1 Losing -66lbs since October 2013
#2 Whooping starcraft 2 computer’s ass, on very hard level (no small feat!)

Both of these goals seemed like having to climb mount everest.

Especially losing weight.
I’ve been losing that battle year after year for almost two decades.

Starcraft 2 is just a pleasant surprise.
I’ve assumed since 1999 that I’m too dumb to learn starcraft (original).

Last year, I bought starcraft 2.
Immediately, I felt inadequate playing the game. It’s super complex and I know nothing about it.

But I figured out a system, by trial & error.
And I think this system is replicable.

Here’s the success recipe:

Pick a specific goal.
Throw the kitchen sink at it.

Whenever we want to do something major, I think we have to layeth the smacketh down on the goal’s ass.

This may be obvious. I just didn’t know how to do that.

First, pick out your goal:
Lose weight.
More specifically, get to 220lbs or better.
Starting point: 303lbs

At this stage, I had no idea how to lose weight. Everything I tried wasn’t working.

So, I ramped up the amount of books, blogs, articles I read about nutrition, weight loss, success stories. I became the sherlock holmes of weight loss.

Next, by coincidence, I also pursued spiritual aspects.

Specifically, I started journaling about my desire to lose weight, used affirmations, wrote goal on notecards & stuck it by my bed, started tithing 10%, prayed to the gods, forgave myself & everyone else in my life for anything anyone has ever done wrong, visualized my goal while taking sea salt baths, learned how to meditate, went to therapist, etc.

My favorite book on spiritual abundance is by Edwene Gaines: The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity.

Third, again by coincidence, I started tweeting, blogging & podcasting about my goals. I talked about losing weight as much as I could.

I became obsessed with the subject.

Lastly, fortune favored me.

I went to a palm reader from india who mentioned he could get me to lose weight fast. I didn’t believe him. But it planted the seed for fast weight loss in my mind. I didn’t want to go to India to lose weight, though.

Next, my arms were so numb every nite that I decided to seek out an alternative doctor. Coincidentally, the doctor also dealt with HCG Diet. That day was October 16, 2013. I’ve never been the same since.

Once I started the diet, I kept detailed spreadsheets. Made charts. Journaled. Read & reread the hcg book. Made specific grocery lists & organized it according to the layout of the store. Bought books on how to cook food. You get the idea.

I threw the god damn kitchen sink at the diet.

To Summarize:
1. Pick a specific goal
2. Use affirmations, pray, tithe, forgive, meditate, journal, tweet, blog, podcast, learn more, and keep eyes & ears tuned for solutions from unexpected sources.

My next goal experiments:
I’m going to test this formula on a couple of other lifelong goals.

1. Create income.
Since I don’t know how that will happen, I need to be more specific.
Finish writing a book. And then charge money for it.

Book could be a flop, or not. That is beyond my control. Only thing I can do is actually sit down and write, word after word. And then put it up for sale. Then figure out next steps afterwards.

2. Play guitar.
Specifically, use Rocksmith 2014 to learn.
More specifically, pick my favorite song on there and shoot for 100% mastery level. Or 95%. Then rinse & repeat with next favorite song.

What this means for you:
I think you will have to create your own custom success recipe.
My ideas could be a starting point.

Whether this post made sense or not, the main takeaway is this:

IT IS POSSIBLE to lose weight fast.
IT IS POSSIBLE to whoop starcraft 2 ass, even on very hard level.

IT IS POSSIBLE to ________________________.

not to people or things.”
